The electric vehicle is here to stay. It is a reality and every day we can see more in our streets. It is a New technology in the market and comes with a Terminology and concepts new we need. And many of us are not familiar with them.
In this article we will review the main elements that differentiate an electric vehicle from a combustion. Thus, we can understand what we are talking about and increasingly make the purchase.
As well as buying a car or gasoline motorcycle, we look at the engine, power, consumption ... In an electric vehicle we must look at 2 key components:
Battery
There are many types of batteries, but we are going to refer to lithium -ion technology that is the most common in electric vehicles today.
The battery is the "gas tank" of an electric vehicle and is built with electrochemical cells. These, store the electrical energy that makes the car or motorcycle move.
Basically, a lithium battery is composed of a lot of "batteries", similar to those we use at home for television command. These batteries are welded in series and/or in parallel depending on the configuration that we want to give as we explain in another article of our blog.
A very important element to consider is the manufacturer of the cells. There is a substantial difference of quality and durability between First brands: Samsung, Panasonic or LG Regarding other generic manufacturers. Therefore, try to find out (if you do not explicitly advertise it) the brand of the cells they use in the batteries of their vehicles. A good battery is synonymous with quality.
As for terminology and simplifying the concepts, as in a gasoline car we measure the size of the deposit in liters. In the case of the battery, the capacity is measured in Kilowatioshora (kWh) and depends on the voltage (V) and the amperage (ah) of it.
That is, in the case of our electric motorcycle Next NX1, equip batteries with cells Samsung of 60v20ah and a capacity to 1.4kwh.
Electric vehicle motor
It is the other key element and its power is measured in Kilowatios (kW).
However, unlike combustion engines, this power in kilowatios does not determine vehicle performance.
That is, not having a more kW, the car or motorcycle will be more powerful.
This is because the KW figure refers to the maximum power that admits the engine without damaging, and really the performance of the vehicle is determined by the amperage (a) battery.
Therefore, if we wanted to increase the benefits of our electric vehicle, it would be enough to replace the battery with one with more available amperage. This as long as the engine is able to admit that extra power.
Finally, but not least, between the engine and the battery the driver is connected, also known as Ecu or switchboard.
This driver is the brain that manages everything that happens in the vehicle: from the lights, to the information shown in the display. But the most important thing is that it regulates the amount of energy that goes from the battery to the engine and, therefore, defines the power delivery curve.
We hope that with this guide you have been able to familiarize yourself with the technical components of an electric vehicle.
