The best electric vehicles for city

We are currently living a moment of change in our cities. Every day we see how there are more initiatives by administrations to encourage urban displacements to be cleaner and more respectful of the environment to achieve, not only less contaminated cities, but less noisy and more pleasant cities in which to live. An example of these initiatives is the promotion of electric vehicles.

At the same time, we have more options for available electric vehicles when choosing a way to move around the city in our day to day. From electric scooters, through electric cars or shared vehicle services (cars, motorcycles and bicycles). However, not all adapt to the needs that each one have nor can they give us the degree of freedom and independence we need in our daily lives.

Do you have determined that you want to move with an electric vehicle? In this post we will analyze the main electrical alternatives to move through your city with its 3 main advantages and disadvantages so you can choose the one that best suits your needs.

Electric vehicles: electric car

Advantages:

  • Comfort. You can travel comfortably with air conditioning or heating and listening to your favorite music.
  • Autonomy. Being larger vehicles, they can house larger batteries and reach 300kms autonomies or more depending on the manufacturer.
  • Security. In a car you are more protected than in any other vehicle.

Disadvantages:

  • Parking problems. As we all know, in certain areas and at certain times finding a place to park is little less than an impossible mission. The alternative is to have a private garage square or leave it in a public parking, and neither option is cheap.
  • Recharge stations. At present, there are not enough public load points so you can leave your electric car anywhere and recharge it comfortably.
  • Jams. Like combustion cars, electric cars are not oblivious to traffic jams. So we will have a good part of our day in a slow traffic instead of dedicating that time to other more rewarding activities.

Electric bikes

Advantages:

  • Ease of parking. You can park it practically anywhere and you don't have to worry about parkings or regulated parking areas.
  • You exercise. Electric bicycles have an assisted pedaling system, which means that the electric motor only works when you are pedaling. In this way, you exercise while moving, although as we will see it has associated inconveniences.
  • Ease of recharge. They can be recharged in any conventional plug since you do not need a recharge station.

Disadvantages:

  • Parking for parking. It is difficult to leave the bicycle safely in the street, since friends of others take advantage of their lightness and that they do not have any documentation to subtract them.
  • Sweat. As we have mentioned earlier, the fact that you exercise while pedelas implies that you can reach your destination. And this, under some circumstances can suppose a problem.
  • You can't carry a passenger. The bicycles are usually individual vehicles, so you will not be able to wear passengers if you need it.

Electric scooters

Advantages:

  • Lightness. The electric scooters are mostly folding and weigh around 13kgs, so you can fold them to rise them to the office or home and save them safely.
  • Easy recharge. Being light and compact vehicles, you can take them anywhere and recharge them with a domestic plug.
  • Price. Of all the options, it is the cheapest to acquire.

Disadvantages:

  • You are standing. It is the only vehicle in which you circulate while standing on the basis of the scooter.
  • Fine wheels. When wearing fine wheels you have to circulate with great care of potholes, sewerage tapas, and other urban elements if we want to avoid an accident.
  • You can't carry a passenger. Like the bicycles, in a scooter you will not be able to carry a passenger if necessary.

Shared electric vehicles service

Advantages:

  • Pay-As-You-G. Being a service, we don't have to make an initial disbursement to acquire the vehicle. You only pay for what you use.
  • Comfortable. Being all included, you don't have to worry about insurance, or maintenance, or recharge the vehicle when the battery is exhausted.
  • Cost. It is a fairly economic alternative if used in moderation, since its prices are around € 0.20-0.25 per minute.

Disadvantages:

  • Availability. We are not always going to have one available when we need, since it depends on the demand for the service at certain times and zones. In many situations, we can have our own vehicle for the freedom and independence that it gives you.
  • Mobile dependence. You depend on your smartphone and that it has battery, coverage and data. The biggest problem comes when you rent one of these vehicles and you run out of these 3 elements in the middle of the service, so you cannot finish your trip and the application continues to add minutes to your account.
  • Cost. As we have said that rates are affordable if used in moderation, rates can be a double edge weapon if used daily. For example, if we use 30 minutes a day from Monday to Friday, the cost can be € 1,584 per year (€ 0.20/minute x 30 minutes x 22 working days per month x 12 months). Depending on the vehicle with which we are comparing and the needs we have, it may have more interesting to buy an electric vehicle in property, since it could be amortized in a very short time.

Electric motorcycle

Advantages:

  • Ease of recharge. Depending on the brand and model, an electric motorcycle can be recharged in any domestic plug. In addition, if it has removable battery system such as Next NX1, you can recharge them comfortably at home or in the office.
  • Autonomy. The autonomy of an electric motorcycle is superior to bicycles and electric scooters. Taking into account that the average daily journey by Ciudad is less than 20 km, you can solve your daily journeys for several days before having to recharge the batteries.
  • Ease of parking. Being a motorcycle and also electric, you can park anywhere in the city without worrying about parking tickets or regulated areas.

Disadvantages:

  • Bad weather. As in any motorcycle, you are exposed to the inclement weather.
  • Risk of injury. As with bicycles or electric scooters, the risk of injuries in case of accident is greater than in a car. Therefore, awareness of all the drivers that we live in the city is very important.
  • Loading capacity. Compared to a car, the load capacity of both people and packages is lower in case we need it at a timely moment.
